Pickens County Museum 2005-2006

Earth Design was awarded the commission to design and implement the landscape at Pickens County Museum in Pickens South Carolina. The landscape design concept was to capture the essence of the natural beauty of Pickens County and present it in an educational manner that is low maintenance. The design and landscape offers a glimpse of the unique geology, cold-water rivers, majestic mountains and indigenous plants. The community has embraced the landscape and schools often bring students to study and learn from the natural systems created here. The landscape at the Pickens County Museum shall long serve the citizens of Pickens by embracing the natural beauty, providing community pride and strong educational values.

South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism (SCPRT)
Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway Visitors Center - Pickens, South Carolina

Earth Design was contracted by the SCPRT to develop a comprehensive planting plan using native trees, shrubs, forbes and grasses, and to provide ecological management recommendations for the Cherokee Foothills Scenic Hwy 11 visitors center located at Table Rock State Park in Pickens South Carolina. The visitor’s center is to be the information gateway for local and out of state visitors to the Upstate of South Carolina state via the Federally designated Cherokee Foothills Scenic Hwy 11. Earth Designs vision for the center was to highlight the indigenous plant species of South Carolina and provide a unique learning opportunity to visitors. Deliverables for the project included planting plan, budgets, and presentations of plans and management goals to SCPRT staff.
